Gastric balloon application is used to create a feeling of fullness in the stomach in order to change the eating habits, to ensure less food consumption, to facilitate balanced and healthy eating behavior. After this application, special liquids and packaged diets are not used, normal foods can be consumed.

This application is temporarily applied to adults between the ages of 18-65 who have not lost weight as a result of diet and exercise practices. The application period is 6 months or 1 year depending on the product used.

With this application, weight loss begins in a very short time. With the endoscopy procedure, the gastric balloon is placed inside the stomach and a special liquid is filled. As preparation for the procedure, the patient should fast for at least 8 hours, ideally for 12 hours before the procedure. In order to ensure that the patient is comfortable during the application, a drug is administered to relax and sleep the patient. Thus, the patient is put to sleep. Before the balloon application, the patient's esophagus, stomach and duodenum are examined by endoscopy to ensure that the patient does not have any stomach discomfort. If a stomach disorder is detected during the endoscopy procedure that prevents the placement of the balloon, the balloon procedure is not applied. If there is no such situation, the balloon, which is lubricated with a special gel, is sent softly from the esophagus to the stomach. The inside of the balloon is filled with a special liquid in the required amount. After the procedure, the patient is rested for 30-60 minutes. Gastric balloon placement is not a surgery. A special liquid is filled into the balloon placed in the stomach endoscopically, and the procedure is completed without blood and stitches.

The known side effect is vomiting, which can be accompanied by the feeling of nausea, which varies between 3-7 days and usually disappears completely at the end of the 3rd day.

The adjustable gastric balloon is safe to use for 1 year. This lifetime is twice the lifetime of the gastric balloons tried so far.

As the body gets used to the balloon, the effect of the gastric balloon begins to diminish over time. This reduction process usually begins 3-4 months after the balloon is placed. When the physician deems it necessary, he can adjust the volume of the balloon with a simple method and accelerate weight loss. Gastric balloon is not a burst material. Although it is very unlikely, a blue color of urine due to methylene blue (medical dye) injected into the balloon indicates leakage. In such a case, you should contact your doctor immediately.
